Great capture as it is interesting with the TV cameraman in the forefront and the wonderful city as the background. I like this shot! 🙂

From David Rayner in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, UK, Friday, February 6th, 2009.

This is an excellent photo that appears to show the old City of London School building on the left, that closed in 1987 and that school features prominately in my comment. I am doing research into the life (and tragic death) of Darren Burn (1961-1991), the famous EMI recording artiste of the early 1970’s, who, while suffering from depression, took his own life in October, 1991, aged 30. From September, 1972 at the age of 11, until September, 1977, at the age of 16, he was a pupil at the City of London School. He should have been there until 1979, but, the school archivist informs me, on Friday, September 30th, 1977, two weeks into his second year in the sixth form, Darren went home for the weekend as usual, but never returned to the school…in effect, abandoning his education. I also understand that, when his expensively promoted recording career at EMI failed to take off in 1973 / 1974, he had a rough time at the school, where he was referred to as “Top Of The Flops”, which had hurt him deeply. In fact, he never recovered from his feeling of failure over the EMI disaster and this may had led to his eventual suicide. Is there anyone out there reading this who went to school with Darren or was there at the same time as Darren and if so, do you have any memories of him, or can you perhaps shed any light on why he abandoned his education at the City of London School so abruptly? The achivist has told me that it was very unusual for a boy to leave two years early like that. And lastly, do you perhaps have any photos of Darren at the school? Hoping you can help, Best Wishes from David.
