Hi yes buts, this is a nice capture of motherhood. Looks like you got a new camera, a D5000. How do you find it?

I was perfectly happy with the D40 and had no intention of buying a new camera, but I won the Guardian Newspapers Camera Club monthly competition and the prize was £400 worth of Jessops vouchers.

Just as I was getting the 5000 the 5001 was released, which resulted in a price drop so I got a body and had some cash over for my wife to get a new P&S.

I got the 5000 for the tilting screen which will aid taking ground level macro shots. I’e had it for a month, when shooting the main difference with the D40 is the additional number of focus points, apart from that they both “feel” the same. Oh there is one big difference, the 5000’s matrix metering is spot on, unlike the 40’s which tended to overexpose.

So now I have a backup for the D40 which has done +37,000 actuations in 27 months – so it can do with another camera to share the load.

Awesome. This is great news. Funny, you only got two comments on the photograph but it’s such a great shot. Enjoy your new gear. I think the Nikon D5000 is great and the tilted screen is great for macro or “micro” (a’la Nikon Micro Nikkor).

One good thing the 40 & 5000 use the same battery so I didn’t have to buy an additional spare battery.

Looking forward to going to Wales tomorrow with the 5000 and 105mm lens- I hope plenty of butterflies and wild plants. 🙂
